FAQ

1. What are the size restrictions for your system?

PURE Windows can be built to large size specifications. The maximum size per panel is 8’ x 12’. Regular dual insulated glass is available in larger sizes. Sliding units up to 6 panels and 3 tracks are possible.

2. What provides the structural support for such a slim profile system?

PURE is not a conventional sliding door system where the aluminum frames typically provide the structural support. Instead, PURE Windows is a special curtain wall system that has been designed to be operable, yet with the slimmest profiles imaginable. The PURE system is based on structural glazing, with the glass and not the aluminum profiles, providing the structural support of the system.

3. What kind of glazing is available?

PURE windows typically require dual insulated glazing for all operable systems since PURE windows are based on the principle of structural glazing. The glazing is specially made for PURE and is typically tempered.  Laminated, Low E and low iron glazing is also available as an option.

4. What is the cost for the PURE Windows system?

PURE Windows is a unique and special system that relies heavily on precision manufacture, assembly and installation of all components. Except for the profiles, every single component of PURE is designed and developed exclusively by a watch components manufactory in Cortaillod (Switzerland) with a precision of a 1/100 of a millimeter, the standard of quality of high-end Swiss watches. The sqf cost of PURE windows depends on many factors, including size, configuration, system and wind load requirements. On average, the sqf cost for fixed and sliding units in a location with 85 mph wind load requirements will run about $ 150 which is equivalent to about 1.6x what you would pay for a high end conventional window system. The sqf cost may be more for higher wind load requirements.

5. Who can do the installation of PURE Windows?

Installation of PURE Windoss requires more than general window, door or curtain wall installation experience. Due to the uniqueness of the PURE window system, the units should only be installed by PURE Windows certified installation experts or your local certified dealer. Furthermore, PURE Windows requires an exceptionally high level of precision for installation for which an adequate amount of time should be allocated.

6. When is the PURE profile used and when to use the PURE+ profile?

The PURE profile can be used for average size panels and dual glazing. The maximum size always depends on the wind load requirements and therefore no standard size restrictions can be given. However, typically, the maximum height possible for the PURE profile is 11’ under low wind load conditions. Less for locations with higher wind loads. For larger size units and high wind loads, we offer the PURE+ profile which typically can accommodate a maximum panel size of 8` x 12’ and optional triple glazing (max panel size 6’ x 10’).

7. Has the PURE window system been tested in the US?

Yes, the PURE+ profile has been fully tested in the US for design pressure, air infiltration and water penetration according to AAMA / WDMA / CSA 101 / I.S.2 A440-05. Furthermore, PURE+ has been NFRC energy rated with exceptional U-values.

8. What are the energy values of PURE Windows and is the profile thermally broken?

Both the PURE and PURE+ profile are thermally broken for exceptional energy performance. The PURE profile system has an assimilated U-value of 0.36 & SHGC of 0.22 with dual glazing. PURE+ has an assimilated U-value of 0.32 & SHGC of 0.22 with dual glazing and 0.26 & SHGC of 0.21 with triple glazing.

9. Is PURE Windows a new system?

PURE Windows is based on Vitrocsa, which is a proven and tested system that was invented in Switzerland in 1993. Over 1 million square feet of glazing or 30,000 Vitrocsa units have been installed to date in over 30 countries worldwide, without a single failure.

10. What is the difference between the PURE and classic Vitrocsa system?

The PURE system is more modular in nature and therefore easier to implement, requiring minimal custom engineering that drives up costs. It also means that there are less options for customization. The benefit is a slightly less expensive price tag. The PURE window system is only available via licensed dealers, while the Vitrocsa system can only be ordered directly from the Vitrocsa factory.

11. Which finishes are available?

PURE Windows’ standard finish is clear anodized (silver anodized). This finish allows the slim aluminum profiles to be inconspicuous so that they blend in well with the glazing, providing an even slimmer appearance. Super durable Polyester Powder coat finishes (7 popular colors) are available as an upgrade option.

12. Are PURE windows manufactured in the US?

Yes, PURE windows are manufactured and assembled in the USA, utilizing US sourced glazing and precision made moving components from Switzerland.

13. Can PURE thresholds be installed flush with the finished floor?

Yes, the PURE sills and frames are designed to be completely concealed in the floor, stucco, drywall or other wall types. This exciting possibility allows glazing to span from floor to ceiling, with the slim 7/8’” vertical jambs between two glass panels being the only evidence of a sliding system.

14. Is the PURE system weatherproof?

The PURE system was designed and engineered in the Swiss Alps to withstand the harshest alpine weather. In addition to cold and stormy locations, PURE has been installed at numerous coastal locations without any problems.
